49ers VS. Colts

The 49ers (3-4) played the Indianapolis Colts (7-0) on Sunday the 1st. Throughout the game, the 49ers lead on the scoreboard until early in the 4th quarter. Under 4 minutes into the game, Frank Gore broke free for a 64 yard touchdown run putting the 49ers up 7-0. With 3 minutes left in the first quarter, Matt Stover kicked a 38 yard field goal to bring the score to 7-3.

10 seconds into the second quarter, Matt Stover hit a 33 yard field goal to bring the score within 1. The game then became a punting match until the 2 minute warning. Alex Smith put together a wonderful drive ending with a 8 yard touchdown pass to Vernon Davis. After a 15 yard penalty for excessive celebrating, the 49ers kicked off allowing Payton Manning enough time to get the Colts into field goal range. Matt Stover hit a 40 yard field goal with 1 second left.

After half, in the 3rd quarter the defenses took over and the only score was a 40 yard field goal by Matt Stover to bring the game within 2 points.

At the turning point of the quarter, the Colts running, Joseph Addai threw a 22 yard pass to Reggie Wayne. After Manning handed the ball to Addai the safety covering Wayne came up to help with the run. This left Wayne wide open to catch the pass from Addai scoring the only touchdown for the Colts. The score was then 18-14 Colts.

The 49er defense had a great game. Against the best quarterback in the league, they only allowed one touchdown pass and it wasn’t even by Payton Manning. The Colts had four attempts at scoring from the red zone, however the 49er defense held them every time. All of the Colts scores came from outside of the Red Zone.

The 49er defense was also able to record 3 sacks on the least sacked quarterback in the league. Payton was sacked more than his combined total through six games and failed to throw a touchdown for the first time in 10 games.

Mike Singletary

Mike Singletary, the 49ers newest head coach, has been in the NFL for a long time. He was a second round draft pick out of Baylor University in 1881 for the Chicago Bears where he spent all of his playing career. He became a starting linebacker seven games into his rookie season. In his third game as a starter against the chief, he recorded ten tackles and forced a fumble.

Thoughout Singletary’s career he has put up tremendous numbers. Singletary was the bears 1st or 2nd leading tackler in his last 11 seasons. Singletary was selected for ten pro bowls, a team record. Singletary was an All- Pro eight times and All-NFC every year from 1983-1991.

In 1985 he lead the Bears to a 15-1 season. That season he recorded 109 solo tackles, 52 assists, 3 sacks, 1 interseption, 3 fumble recoveries, and 1 forced fumble. He won NFL defencive player of the Year, and led a defense that was ranked 1st against the rush and 3rd against the pass.

In the 1985 post-season, Singletary lead the Bears to Super Bowl XX and defeated the New England Patriots 46-10. He tied the Super-Bowl fumble recovery record, broke up a pass that would have gone for a touchdown, and placed an explosive hit on running back Craig James.

Singletary was named defensive player of the year by assosiated press in 1985 and 1988. He was elected into the College football hall of fame in 1995 and into the Pro Football hall of Fame in 1998. He was also ranked 56th on The Sporting News’ list of 100 Greatest Football Players.

As a Coach, Singletary became the Baylor University head coach in 2002. In 2003, he became the linebacker coach for the Boltamore Ravens. In 2008 Singletary to over for Mike Nolan as haed coach and sent Vernon Davis to the locker room with 10 minutes left in his head coaching debut.

Singletary has made a great impact on the team.

Hey all,

Welcome to my site. I’m a high school student at Sir Francis Drake High School. Here you can find all you need to know about famous players from the past and present, and all about the coaching staff. My main posts will be about Mike Singletary, Frank Gore, Joe Montana, Isaac Bruce, and Nate Clements.

This site will most likely be updated about 3 times a week. Monday, wednesday, and friday are my most likely days to update my site.

Right now in the 49ers:

Frank Gore has been out with an injury for the past two games. The 49ers have suffered greatly because half the offence is based around Frank Gore. Coffee, the 2nd string running back, came in for the 49ers and did an ok job. The next week coffee put alot of pressure on himself to live up to Gore’s expectations. I think that his preformance greatly suffered from the strain he put on himself to be like Gore. The next week Coffee did a much better job when he focused more on himself and didn’t try to compare him to Frank Gore.

Isaac Bruce, one of the 49ers most reliable receivers, has been not preforming as greatly as he has in previous seasons. He hasn’t been catching as many passes as last season. shaun Hill seems to be on better timing with Vernon Davis the tight end who has been a great success for the 49ers so far this season. Last October, Davis was kicked off the field by new head coach Mike Singletary. Since then Davis has become a much better team player and has been recorded saying that he is focusing more on whats better for the team then just on himself.
